Overview
The Kanchenjunga Trekking is a remote and pristine Himalayan adventure in eastern Nepal, ideal for those who want to explore unspoiled nature and culture. This trek, operated by Sacred Trails, offers breathtaking views of Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586m)—the world’s third-highest peak—alongside encounters with Rai and Limbu communities. You’ll traverse deep forests, high mountain passes, alpine meadows, and glacial rivers inside the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area.
Outline Itinerary
Upon arrival, a Sacred Trails representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. Enjoy a welcome dinner and trip briefing. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Take a scenic flight to Bhadrapur and drive through tea estates to the charming town of Ilam. Overnight at a hotel in Ilam.
After breakfast, drive to Taplejung and start your trek through terraced fields and villages to Mitlung. Overnight at a teahouse.
Walk along the Tamor River, passing through valleys and Limbu villages. Reach Chirwa, a small riverside settlement. Overnight in a teahouse.
Trek through cultivated fields and forests to the Tibetan-influenced village of Sukathum, located near the Ghunsa River. Overnight at a teahouse.
Today’s trail includes uphill climbs, narrow gorges, and beautiful waterfalls. Reach the remote village of Amjilosa. Overnight stay.
Trek through dense forests of bamboo and rhododendron. Spot wildlife and enjoy river views as you reach Gyabla, a Tibetan-style settlement.
Descend briefly and follow the river to Ghunsa, a major Sherpa village with prayer flags and monasteries. Overnight at a local lodge.
Rest and acclimatize at Ghunsa. Short hike to nearby ridges or monasteries. Prepare for higher elevations ahead. Overnight at a teahouse.
Ascend gradually through larch forests and landslide-prone areas to Kambachen. Spectacular views of Jannu (7,710m). Overnight in Kambachen.
