Overview
Island Peak Climbing (Imja Tse – 6,189m) is a thrilling 17-day expedition designed for trekkers seeking their first Himalayan summit experience. The journey combines the iconic Everest Base Camp route with a summit climb of Island Peak, offering majestic views of Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and Makalu. This moderate technical climb includes glacier travel, fixed rope sections, and awe-inspiring alpine scenery — ideal for adventurous beginners and seasoned trekkers alike.
Outline Itinerary
Welcome to Nepal! Upon arrival, a Sacred Trails representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Evening welcome dinner and expedition briefing. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Enjoy a guided tour of Kathmandu’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Final gear check and climbing permit issuance. Overnight at your hotel.
Scenic flight to Lukla (2,860m). Begin the trek descending to Phakding along the Dudh Koshi River. Trek duration: 3–4 hours. Overnight at a teahouse.
Cross several suspension bridges and ascend through Sagarmatha National Park. Reach the bustling Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar. Trek duration: 5–6 hours.
Short hike to Everest View Hotel for stunning panoramas. Visit Sherpa museum and explore local markets. Rest in the afternoon. Overnight in Namche.
A scenic trail with views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Visit Tengboche Monastery — the spiritual center of the Khumbu. Overnight at a teahouse.
Descend to Debuche and cross the Imja River before ascending to the beautiful alpine village of Dingboche. Trek duration: 5–6 hours.
Hike to Nagarjun Hill (~5,100m) for acclimatization and incredible views of Makalu and Island Peak. Return to Dingboche. Overnight at a teahouse.
Trek to Chhukung through glacial valleys. Rest and preparation day for climbing segment. Trek duration: 3–4 hours.
Begin the approach to Island Peak Base Camp. The trail passes glaciers and rocky terrain. Tent accommodation at Base Camp.
Final summit training: harness use, fixed rope, ascender techniques, crampon walking, and ice climbing basics. Overnight in tented camp.
Start before dawn for a 10–12 hour summit and return journey. Use ropes and crampons to reach the summit. Enjoy 360° views of Himalayan giants. Return to Chhukung.
Trek back via Dingboche and Namche to Lukla over three days. Reflect on your journey and celebrate with your team. Overnight at teahouses.
Take a morning flight back to Kathmandu. Free afternoon for rest, shopping, or celebration dinner. Overnight at your hotel.
